restless in central

just another day. full of planned and contrived events. i was falling asleep. not sure if it is the season? the suddenly hot weather? or just me, caught in a bad day?

i shuffled a lot of papers on my desk today. if that counts as an achievement.

my brother called. warning me of ongoing massacre in the philippines.

but my heart, my heart is filled with turquoise water. and that sea-foam white horizon. forever out of reach.

美丽的哀愁，也是苍白的

看完了《山楂树之恋》，我的第一本读完的电子书。过去几个朋友推荐过，都说很感人，也有的说太悲伤。

的确使人有些堵，部分是因为那个时代而被扭曲的人性，部分是因为有些过分修饰的情节和人物内心活动。我知道人家是要把美好的东西摔碎给我来看，但是如果美好的东西修饰太多，摔的动作又很夸张的话，倒有些令人觉得适得其反。

看完之后心情也很寥落。下午到一个医生朋友那里去，告诉她我刚刚读完一本挺伤感的书，问她要不要读。她说算了。因为工作了一天，很多压力，悲剧就免了。

听说还有续集，仍然是自传体。我想也是免了。

went to the sports ground at 4pm and found out i was the only one there. or so i thought. as it turned out, someone has misinformed a few of us and three of us were early by two hours. so we headed for the football pitch, where we’d sat for two hours. the sun was slanting westward, and it was rather warm. one of the friends dozed off, the other one was looking for some shades, so that she would not get a peasanty suntan. i was sitting comfortably, reading a sugary novel called the haw tree on my snazzy e-reader.

the sun was going down on us, over some distance, and against a line of eucalyptus trees.

it was all very warm and slow. so unlike hong kong.

nice one. if a bit too short.

马友友和大闸蟹

其实要说，了解自己也挺难的。当然知道这一点，不只是用了今天一夜的功夫。也不能说跟标题上的两样东西有直接的关系。间接的关系，有。

昨天看完了马友友的大提琴外加钢琴二重奏的音乐会，几个球友又轰轰隆隆地到人家家里去吃刚刚从无锡带回来的大闸蟹。到的时候已经快要十一点了，还要张罗着在超市关门之前买花雕。还要偷些紫苏叶子。醋也没有，女主人要到外面的小吃部里去要。听上去不像香港人干的事情。

吃完螃蟹，喝了地瓜粥，又干掉了一瓶主人从Napa带来的Opus One。 上面热辣辣地印着Mondavi和de Rothschild伯爵的花哨的签名。非常浓重的酒，深紫，很多的花果香，甚至有烤pastry的甜香和浓可可的味道，涩劲儿也很足。不过，Napa毕竟是Napa，留香就不够。但是也许是因为我们之前吃的螃蟹和要来的醋吧。

好东西——马友友，大闸蟹，好酒，朋友——全都凑在很短的时间。这样的一夜。

很浓。

just read that one of the new english words created in 2009 was funemployed, together with unfriend, the latter meaning to delete someone from your list of friends on facebook.

funemployed refers to when you were made redundant in the global financial crisis, you took the opportunity to spend a year or two, on something you always wanted to do but never had time or guts to do. so far. like opening that cafe, or learning spanish in barcelona, or becoming an opera singer, or just pottering around, doing precisely nothing. whatever takes your fancy.

maybe that’s something for me too? i reckon.

what would then take my fancy?

i have got a few ideas. i just need to lay them down and pick one. or two.

the work situation is quite shitilicious right now. i am just observing all the huh-ha with cold detachment and a macabre sense of amusement.

now i have set my sight on the exit. firmly. in the meantime, i am just squirrelling on a bit bobs here and there…

在英国的时候有好几个朋友都不吃海鲜，除了他们毫无味道的炸鱼条。我总也学不会在听到这一句话之后不要瞪大眼睛，然后像头比党的恩情还大的鲁豫一样，问：“真的吗？！”

是真的，不吃海鲜，不吃龙虾鲥鱼蛤蜊海参鱼翅对虾濑尿虾石斑东星苏梅蛏子海螺芒果贝毛蚶螺蛳鱼子酱。这对我来说，跟听到不食人间烟火没什么两样。我知道有的人对海鲜过敏，不能吃。但是我的朋友们不吃的原因是：那些东西有些鱼腥味道。

“哦，天哪！你本人比电视上还可爱。”

不知道去欣赏、去享受食物有多少是天生的，有多少是后天的，反正我都要感谢我的父母。他们每个人都长了三张嘴，要品。弟弟和我也是。弟妹的家庭也很喜欢食物。母亲常常在电话上向我汇报九岁的侄子如何对饭菜作颇有些见地的点评。

这跟生活水平的高低没有很大的关系，尤其是在达到简单温饱之后。欣赏食物，是一种做法，一种心态和——不知道这话是不是有些离谱——一种人生观。

一餐美食之后，我最常想到的一句赞美之辞是：“真想死。”

环境不太重要，重要的是食物。有时候做饭的人也挺重要的，只要是真实的。当然，和谁一起吃也很重要。

和餐后匝吧嘴的回味。

今天读到一则很有趣的访谈。简-芳达，71岁了，依然光彩照人。她说她的模样30%靠好基因，30%靠好sex，30%靠健康生活、体育运动，10%靠美容手术。她说：她现在感觉很好，一点儿也不想再回到年轻的时候。

呵呵。我也可以学舌：我现在好得很，一点也不想回到年轻的时候，100%靠好吃的。

水，水，水

这一段在深圳的时间比较多。

注意到很多像大型冰箱一样的装置，在很多住宅小区的花园旁边。在老城区，干脆就在马路边上。

后来才知道，这是供市民购买食用水的地方。是净水器，上面写着从自来水到净化水的N多个步骤。仔细读的话，你会觉得如果将来打生化战争也不过如此。

我对朋友说：我过去看过书，所谓的净化水都是商业炒作。

但是我尝了一口深圳的自来水之后我就不做声了。

听说澳门在考虑限制居民的生活用水，水疗馆、洗浴场所已经受到供水的限制。好像澳门、香港的水源，一个是西江，一个是东江，两条江的水位今年都非常低，但是西江更为严重。

香港政府说，这里的水还够，因为广东政府签有合约，必须保证香港的用水。但是如果东江干涸，那么保证也没用。

港府在讨论海水净化工厂的事情。这是港府的好。

最近两三年很少看到关于华北用水问题的报道，过去看过的数据只能用触目惊心来描述。我觉得没有看到任何更新报道的原因很可能不是问题已经被解决了，或者问题不再像过去那样严重了。

恰恰相反。
